Art Auction for Haitiheld at Swann Auction Galleries
Over $50,000 was raised in support of Haiti at an art auction conducted by boltax.gallery this Thursday, January 28th. The proceeds of "Art Auction for Haiti" will go to Partners in Health, an organization that has been providing medical and healthcare services in Haiti for 20 years.
The 27 artworks in the auction were donated by artists from six countries, including Haiti.
Karen Boltax, the director of the boltax.gallery, says that the reason for this art auction is personal. "Ever since 9-11 when there have been happening these really awful catastrophes, I’ve felt disempowered by them. I have a very good friend who is Haitian and I have been to Haiti, so when the earthquake happened I had this very strong desire to not have this feeling of disempowerment. I really wanted to do something. We put this event together in the last two weeks," shares Karen.
The artists who donated their artworks to help Haiti through this art auction are:
Vickie Pierre, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Edouard Steinhauer (Originally from Haiti, living in the U.S)
American artists: Jazz-Minh Moore, Suzanne Unrein, Monica Rezman, Nick Dyball, Kathryn Lynch, Melodie Provenzano, Charlotta Janssen, Marla Lombard, Mary Larsen, Louise Crandell, Sue Hershberger Yoder, Andrew Nash, Steven Corsano, Sylvia Hommert, Harald Marinius, Don Florence.
